Ayano Shigematsu won the 3rd prize at 13th international Telemann Competition, category historical string instruments in Magdeburg.

 

Ayano worked with, among others, Prof. Dr. Pedro Memelsdorff, Prof. Jean-Christophe Dijoux, Freiburger Baroque Orchestra and Bremen Baroque Orchestra, and performed at, among others Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht and Wratislava Cantans in Wrocław. They also take part in CD recordings. ​

Ayano’s repertoire ranges from the early 17th century onward, spanning solo, chamber, and orchestral works. They are deeply drawn to historical treatises—including violin methods—and draw on the principles found in these sources to shape their approach to interpretation, technique, and posture, adapting their bow work to speak the distinct language of each repertoire. Their delicate, finely honed technique, the warmth and beauty of their gut-string sound, and a natural musicality are among the qualities that captivate audiences and make their playing so distinctive.

Ayano studied with Prof. Gottfried von der Goltz and Kaori Toda, and  currently studies with Prof. Mechthild Karkow.
